An efficient process for stereoselectively producing L-erythro-(1R,2S)-2-amino-1-phenylpropan-1-ol from L-(R)-phenylacetylcarbinol, which comprises reductively aminating L-(R)-phenylacetylcarbinol with a primary aralkylamine under catalytic reduction conditions and successively subjecting the resultant L-erythro-(1R,2S)-2-(N-aralkylamino)-1-phenylpropan-1-ol to catalytic reduction to remove the N-aralkyl group in a manner as in hydrogenolysis.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé efficace de production stéréosélective de L-érythro-(1R, 2S)-2-amino-1-phénylpropan-1-ol à partir de L-(R)-phénylacétylcarbinol. Ce procédé consiste à aminer par réduction du L-(R)-phénylacétylcarbinol avec une aralkylamine primaire dans des conditions de réduction catalytique puis à soumettre le composé L-érythro-(1R, 2S)-2-(N-aralkylamino)-1-phénylpropan-1-ol ainsi obtenu à une réduction catalytique de manière à extraire le groupe N-aralkyle à la manière d'une hydrogénolyse.
