टिन मशीन II (Tin Machine II) ' के आगमन की शुरुआत कवर आर्ट को लेकर व्यापक रूप से प्रचारित और गलत-समय पर उपजे विवाद के साथ हुई: उत्पादन के शुरु होने के बाद, नये उत्पाद लेबल, विक्टरी (Victory), ने सर्वांग-सुंदर मुद्रा में चार नग्न बैंड सदस्यों की कल्पना की, जिसे बोवी ने “उत्कृष्ट ढंग में”, “गलत, अश्लील चित्रों का एक प्रदर्शन” माना, जिसे आकृतियों को लिंग-विहीन रूप में प्रस्तुत करने के लिये एयर ब्रश का प्रयोग करने और ढंकने की ज़रूरत थी।
