Bastia is not what you can call an art city, with lots of museums and churches, its beauty lies more in the lanes, streets, squares and the port, or inside its characteristic historic districts, which host some fine monuments, like the baroque church Saint-Jean-Baptiste (with the symmetric bell-towers) situated in Place de l’Hôtel-de-ville, in the historic district Terra Vecchia, which is the most ancient of Bastia; the square, also called Place du marché, hosts the daily town market, a good place for food shopping.

Precisamente Bastia no es una ciudad de arte donde perderse por iglesias y museos, sino que está para ser aprovechada callejón por callejón, plazita por plazita, largo las caladas del puerto viejo, en el interior de sus característicos barrios históricos, que de todas formas hospedan algunos hermosos monumentos. Como la barroca église Saint-Jean-Baptiste (aquella con los dos campanarios simétricos) en Place de l’Hôtel-de-ville, en el barrio de Terra Vecchia, el más antiguo de Bastia; esta plaza, llamada también Place du marché, hospeda también el mercado ciudadano diario, óptima ocasión para hacer compras gastronómicas y alimenticias.
