Valuable information on the migration and dispersal of marine turtles has been obtained through studies of the barnacles they host. For example, Zullo and Bleakney (1966) reported platylepadine barnacles (Stomatolepas elegans) on the skin of leatherbacks recovered off Nova Scotia.

Deux tortues luths marquées sur une plage de nidification de Trinidad ont migré vers le nord, dans des eaux situées entre 40o et 50o de latitude, avant de nager vers le sud jusqu'à la côte de la Mauritanie, en Afrique (Eckert, 1998).
