After the birth of Debrecen University with the merge of the city's independent educational institutions in the early 2000s, the institute is further working for the development of agriculture in this region as part of the Centre of Agricultural Science of Debrecen University.

A telephelyek megmaradtak, önálló gazdálkodást folytattak. A 2000-es években a Debreceni Egyetem integrálta az Agrártudományi Egyetemet, mely a 2016-ban történt átszervezést követően Agrár Kutatóintézetek és Tangazdaság (AKIT) néven jelenleg is működik.
