He urged the Council to address an urgent appeal to the Security Council rapidly to adopt by consensus a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and to discharge its function of maintaining international peace and security, as requested by the Arab delegation mandated by the ministerial meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States held in Beirut on 7 August 2006, to convey the seven legitimate demands of the Lebanese Government and the Arab point of view concerning the grave situation in Lebanon.

Insta al Consejo a que haga un llamamiento urgente al Consejo de Seguridad para que apruebe rápidamente por consenso una resolución en la que exija una cesación del fuego inmediata y lleve a cabo su función de mantenimiento de la paz y la seguridad internacionales, tal como solicitó la delegación árabe a la que la reunión ministerial del Consejo de la Liga de los Estados Árabes celebrada en Beirut el 7 de agosto de 2006 encomendó la tarea de transmitir las siete demandas legítimas del Gobierno libanés y el punto de vista árabe con respecto a la grave situación en el Líbano.
