وفي ضوء المفاوضات التي أجرتها الأمانة العامة مع شركة غوغل (Google) أوصى اجتماع مديري منظومة الأمم المتحدة لتكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات الذي عقد في جنيف في أيار/مايو 2002، بأن يكون للأمانة العامة دور قيادي في استكشاف الحلول (وفي تمويلها) لنظام البحث على نطاق المنظومة.

In the light of the Secretariat’s negotiations with Google, United Nations system information and communications technology managers meeting in Geneva in May 2002 recommended that the Secretariat take the lead in investigating solutions (and the financing of those solutions) for a system-wide search engine.
