Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with subsequent cholecystectomy is the routine established procedure for this pathology. If it fails, the routine is to proceed with a common bile duct exploration with the insertion of a T tube or primary closure.

Su tratamiento usual actualmente consiste en practicar primero una colangiopancreatografía retrógrada endoscópica (CPRE) y luego la colecistectomía; si la primera es fallida, está indicada la exploración de la vía biliar con colocación de tubo en T o cierre primario.
