Because of the vast importance of this love, -- without which, "though we spake with the tongues of men and angels, though we had the gift of prophecy, and understood all mysteries, and all knowledge; though we had all faith, so as to remove mountains; yea, though we gave all our goods to feed the poor, and our very bodies to be burned, it would profit us nothing," -- the wisdom of God has given us, by the Apostle Paul, a full and particular account of it; by considering which we shall most clearly discern who are the merciful that shall obtain mercy.

Siendo este amor de una importancia tan vasta—sin el cual, aunque hablásemos lenguas humanas y angélicas, y tuviésemos profecía, y entendiésemos todos los misterios y toda ciencia, y tuviésemos toda la fe de tal manera que traspasásemos los montes; más aún, si repartiésemos toda nuestra hacienda para dar de comer a los pobres, y si entregásemos nuestros cuerpos para ser quemados, de nada nos serviría— Dios ha querido en su sabiduría darnos, por medio de su apóstol Pablo, una relación especial y completa de él. Y al meditar sobre dicha relación, podremos comprender muy claramente quiénes sean los misericordiosos que han de alcanzar misericordia.
