RIMPAC is the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise and is held biennially off the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2016, 26 nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel participated. In 2018, to test the multi-domain battle concept, U.S. Army forces will fire a naval strike missile from the shore to sink a ship, Harris said, adding that "our Japanese allies will also fire a shore-based missile" to subdue a threat at sea.
