Im Verlauf des Projekts untersuchen wir eine Vielzahl von Eigenschaften bei Pflanzen und deren Wurzeln, etwa zu wachsen und sich zu bewegen als Reaktion auf äußere Reize, die Fähigkeit der Wurzelspitze, Zellen neu zu bilden, die Bildung von Lateralwurzeln, um beim Durchdringen des Bodens entstehende Reibung und Druck zu minimieren, sensorische Fähigkeiten zur Erkennung verschiedenster physikalischer Zustände und chemischer Konzentrationen in der Umgebung, den Osmoseprozess für schnelle oder langsame Bewegungen der Pflanzen und schließlich die Koordinierung des gesamten Wurzelwachstums der Pflanze, wenn sie auf optimale Ziele trifft.

There are many features of plants or plant roots that we are investigating in this project, including: capacity of growth and movement in response to external stimuli; growth from the tip of the root by adding cells and production of lateral hairs, to reduce the friction and pressure needed to penetrate the soil; sensory capabilities to detect a range of different physical and chemical quantities in the environment; osmotic actuation, used for triggering fast movements or driving slow movements in plants; and emergent behaviour by coordination of the roots of the whole organism towards optimal targets.

En este proyecto se están investigando múltiples características de las plantas y de sus raíces, por ejemplo la capacidad de crecimiento y de movimiento en respuesta a estímulos externos, el crecimiento a partir de la punta de la raíz mediante la adición de células y la producción de folículos laterales a fin de reducir la fricción y la presión necesaria para penetrar en el suelo, capacidades sensoras con las que detectar una serie de variables físicas y químicas presentes en el entorno, un accionamiento osmótico que las plantas usan para realizar movimientos rápidos o lentos, y un comportamiento emergente mediante la coordinación de las raíces del organismo al completo destinado a alcanzar objetivos de manera óptima.

Dans le cadre de ce projet, nous étudions plusieurs caractéristiques des plantes ou racines, notamment: la capacité de croissance et de déplacement en réaction aux stimuli externes; la croissance par le développement de cellules à l'extrémité de la racine et la production de poils latéraux, pour réduire le frottement et la pression nécessaire pour pénétrer le sol; les capacités sensorielles pour détecter différentes quantités physiques et chimiques dans l'environnement; l'activation osmotique, utilisée pour déclencher des mouvements rapides ou ralentir le mouvement dans les plantes; et le comportement émergent par la coordination des racines de tout l'organisme pour atteindre un niveau optimal.

In questo progetto stiamo studiando molte caratteristiche delle piante e delle loro radici, tra cui: la capacità di crescita e movimento in risposta a stimoli esterni, la crescita dalla punta della radice aggiungendo cellule e la produzione di peli laterali per ridurre l'attrito e la pressione necessaria per penetrare nel suolo, le capacità sensoriali per rilevare una gamma di differenti grandezze fisiche e chimiche nell'ambiente, l'attività osmotica utilizzata per innescare movimenti veloci o guidare movimenti lenti nelle piante e il comportamento risultante dal coordinamento delle radici di tutto l'organismo per raggiungere obiettivi ottimali.
