While the Division had already participated in a number of outreach activities, including playing host to the forum of the International Permanent Conference of University Institutes of Translators and Interpreters, the ever-increasing demands placed on translators and interpreters often meant that they were unable to avail themselves of useful training opportunities or to share their professional expertise with educational institutions in the context of the outreach programme
