تتضمن أهداف الرابطة ما يلي: (أ) توفير منتديات مفتوحة مستمرة لمناقشة وتحليل مشاكل العالم الثالث وتطوراته من ثلاثة منظورات أو وجهات نظر مختلفة، ومن ثم زيادة فهم القوى الأساسية التي تشكل مصير العالم الثالث وتؤثر في التطورات العالمية؛ (ب) تعزيز المهارات المهنية من خلال تشجيع البحث والنشر والتعليم في مجال دراسات العالم الثالث؛ (ج) تيسير الاتصال المهني والاجتماعي عن طريق رعاية الأنشطة التي تجمع بين الأشخاص المهتمين بدراسات العالم الثالث؛ (د) تعزيز النهوض بنوعية معيشة شعوب العالم الثالث من خلال الارتباط الرسمي بالمؤسسات الخاصة العاملة في مجال التنمية في العالم الثالث.

The objectives of ATWS include: (a) providing ongoing open forums to discuss and analyse third world problems and developments from different perspectives or viewpoints, and thus improve understanding of the underlying forces shaping the destiny of the third world and impacting global developments; (b) promoting professional development through the encouragement of research, publication and teaching in the area of third world studies; (c) facilitating professional and social communication by sponsoring activities that will bring together persons interested in third world studies; and (d) promoting the enhancement of the quality of life of third world peoples through formal association with private institutions involved with development in the third world.

Los objetivos de la ATWS son los siguientes: a) proporcionar foros permanentes abiertos al examen y análisis de los problemas y acontecimientos del tercer mundo desde diferentes perspectivas o puntos de vista, y así lograr una mejor comprensión de las fuerzas subyacentes que determinan el destino del tercer mundo e influyen sobre los acontecimientos mundiales; b) promover el desarrollo profesional mediante el estímulo a la investigación, la publicación y la enseñanza en la esfera de los estudios sobre el tercer mundo; c) facilitar la comunicación profesional y social, auspiciando las actividades que reunirán a las personas interesadas en los estudios sobre el tercer mundo; y d) promover el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de los pueblos del tercer mundo mediante la asociación formal con las instituciones privadas comprometidas en el desarrollo del tercer mundo.

Задачи АИСТМ предусматривают: a) обеспечение постоянно действующих открытых форумов для обсуждения и анализа проблем «третьего мира» и происходящих событий с различных перспектив или точек зрений при более глубоком понимании основополагающих факторов, определяющих судьбу стран «третьего мира» и влияющих на глобальные события; b) содействие профессиональному развитию на основе поощрения научных исследований, выпуску публикаций и просвещению в области изучения стран «третьего мира»; c) содействие профессиональной и социальной коммуникации на основе организации мероприятий, объединяющих лиц, заинтересованных в изучении стран «третьего мира»; и d) содействие улучшению качества жизни людей в странах «третьего мира» путем установления официальных контактов с частными учреждениями, участвующими в развитии стран «третьего мира».
