The flooding provoked by the overflow of the Riera torrent in 1406, when many Palmesans died, made everybody turn their eyes toward Mary, Mother of Grace, Mother of mercy, Mother of the cloak, “Mother of all”. They invoked her maternity with a votive offering hung on the grave of the victims in the Cathedral: Holy Mary shelters under her cloak all people of all conditions.

La inundación provocada por el desbordamiento del torrente de sa Riera, en 1406, que causó una mortandad espantosa, hizo que los palmesanos volvieran nuevamente sus ojos a Maria, madre de gracia, madre de la merced, madre de misericordia, madre del manto, “madre de todos”, e invocó su amorosa maternidad con un ex-voto, colgado sobre la sepultura de las víctimas en la Catedral: santa María ampara bajo su manto hombres y mujeres de cualquier estamento.
