وفيما يتصل بالقلق الذي جرى الإعراب عنه بخصوص عقوبة الإعدام، والادعاءات المتعلقة بحدوث حالات قتل خارج نطاق القضاء وحالات تعذيب، أشار الوفد إلى المادة 33(1) من الدستور، التي تحمي الحق في الحياة وتنص على أنه "لا يجوز حرمان أي شخص عمداً من حياته إلا تنفيذاً لحكم محكمة يتعلق بجريمة أدين بها في نيجيريا".

On concern expressed about the death penalty, allegations of extra-judicial killings and torture, the delegation referred to Section 33 (1) of the Constitution, which protects the right to life and provides that “no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which he has been found guilty in Nigeria”.

En cuanto a la preocupación por la pena de muerte, las denuncias de ejecuciones extrajudiciales y torturas, la delegación se remitió al artículo 33 1) de la Constitución, que amparaba el derecho a la vida y preveía que "nadie será privado voluntariamente de la vida, excepto en cumplimiento de una sentencia impuesta por un tribunal que haya declarado al reo culpable de cometer un delito en Nigeria".

En ce qui concerne les préoccupations exprimées au sujet de la peine de mort, des allégations d’exécutions extrajudiciaires et de la torture, la délégation a renvoyé à l’article 33-1 de la Constitution, qui protégeait le droit à la vie et disposait qu’«aucune personne ne peut être privée intentionnellement de la vie, si ce n’est en exécution de la peine infligée par un tribunal au titre d’une infraction pénale dont elle a été reconnue coupable au Nigéria».

Касаясь беспокойства, высказанного в связи со смертной казнью и сообщениями о внесудебных казнях и пытках, делегация сослалась на статью 33 (1) Конституции, которая обеспечивает защиту права на жизнь и предусматривает, что "никакое лицо в Нигерии не может быть умышленно лишено жизни, кроме как по приговору суда в отношении уголовного преступления, в совершении которого это лицо было признано виновным".
