Wie Bellarmin (De Rom. Pont., I, 9; De Concil., II, 19) fein und scharfsinnig bemerkt hat, ist diese Benennung des Leibes Christi nicht bloß daraus zu erklären, daß Christus das Haupt seines mystischen Leibes genannt werden muß, sondern auch aus der Tatsache, daß Er derart Träger der Kirche ist und in ihr gewissermaßen derart lebt, daß sie selbst gleichsam ein zweiter Christus wird.

As Bellarmine notes with acumen and accuracy,[93] this appellation of the Body of Christ is not to be explained solely by the fact that Christ must be called the Head of His Mystical Body, but also by the fact that He so sustains the Church, and so in a certain sense lives in the Church, that she is, as it were, another Christ.

Comme Bellarmin le remarque finement et ingénieusement (93), il ne faut pas expliquer cette expression de Corps du Christ seulement par le fait que le Christ doit être appelé la Tête de son Corps mystique, mais aussi par le fait qu'il soutient l'Eglise, qu'il vit dans l'Eglise, si bien que celle-ci est comme une autre personne du Christ.
