The word Eucharist also means “Thanksgiving,” and it is in the celebration of the Eucharist that the Body of Christ the Church gathers together to give thanks to God for the great gift of salvation that is accomplished in Christ. During the Mass we offer ourselves with Christ as a living sacrifice to the Father in the Holy Spirit, but specifically a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving for all that God has given us in Christ: “Lift up your hearts...let us give thanks to the Lord our God.”
