It should be recalled in this context that unlike other liquid wastes that contain water, mercury has low affinity with salt and that directive 1999/31/EC(5) as amended by Council Directive 2011/97/EU(6) foresees specific requirements for metallic mercury, including corrosion-resistant containers.

Conviene recordar en este contexto que, a diferencia de otros residuos líquidos que contienen agua, el mercurio tiene una baja afinidad por la sal, y que la Directiva 1999/31/CE(5), modificada por la Directiva 2011/97/UE(6) del Consejo, prevé unos requisitos específicos para el mercurio metálico, y en particular contenedores resistentes a la corrosión.
