A singular perturbation problem for the linearised disturbances in a parallel gas flow associated with a thin viscous layer in the neighborhood of the critical pointu=c is posed, and the method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to develop a simplified system of equations (of the same accuracy) and the associated asymptotic matching conditions.
