With the increasing monopoly control by transnational corporations over all elements of the food chain, from the production, trade and processing to the marketing and retailing of food, as well as over the majority of water concessions worldwide (see # paragraphs # ), it is becoming more difficult for less powerful national Governments to regulate transnational corporations working within their territory to respect human rights, making it essential that the often more powerful “home” States engage in adequate regulation
