Nichiren Shōnin hat aus allen buddhistischen Lehren und Gedanken das Lotos-Sutra ausgewählt und dessen Lehre in der Form vom Odaimoku erklärt. Am 13. Oktober 1282 ist er im Alter von 61 Jahren in Ikegami in Tokio heimgegangen.
