The minimum survey license fee for a hydropower project has been fixed at Rs 100,000. Earlier, the minimum license fee was Rs 50,000 and maximum Rs 200,000. A total of 50 projects went to court challenging the decision of the Department of Electricity Development (DoED) to increase the fee. “Among them, 40 projects have acquired a stay order from the Appellate Court, Lalitpur, so we have renewed their licence s by charging them at the old rate,” said DoED spokesperson Gokarna Pant. “We will decide whether to continue the licence s or cancel them after the court gives its final verdict.”

सर्वोच्च अदालतले असोज १५ अगाडि नवीकरण गर्न निवेदन दिएका केही आयोजनाको शुल्क नबढाउन अन्तरिम आदेश जारी गरिसकेको छ । ‘अदालतले पनि एउटै प्रकृतिका आयोजनालाई फरकफरक आदेश दिएर समय खेर फाल्नु उचित हुँदैन,’ पाण्डेले भने, ‘सरकारले जानी जानी सबैलाई अदालत पठाउने काम गरेको छ । त्यस्तो कार्य तत्काल बन्द गर्नुपर्छ ।’ पिपुल्स हाइड्रोपावरले सरकारको निर्णयलाई चुनौती दिँदै अदालत गएपछि त्यही बाटो पछ्याउने कम्पनी एक दर्जन पुगेका छन् । अदालतले बढेको शुल्क तत्काल कार्यान्वयनमा नल्याउन सरकारका नाममा अन्तरिम आदेश जारी गरिसकेको छ ।
