Along with classics from the previous century, in the 20s and early 30s contemporary operas began to be staged at the theatre – among them Sergei Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, Alban Berg’s Wozzeck and Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier; and ballets were mounted that reinforced the new choreographic trend that had been popular for decades, the so called “drama-ballet” – Reinhold Glière’s The Red Poppy, Boris Asafiev’s Flames of Paris and The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Alexander Krein’s Laurencia and Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet among others.

Junto con los clásicos del siglo previo, en los 20s y los tempranos 30s óperas contemporáneas comenzaron a ser presentadas en el teatro, entre ellas, El amor por 3 naranjas de Prokofiev, Wozzeck de Alban Berg y Der Rosenkavalier de Strauss; y ballets fueron montados que reforzaron la coreográfica que había sido popular por décadas, el llamado “drama-ballet”, La amapola roja de Teinhold Glière, Flamas de Paris y La Fuente de Bachchisarai de Boris Asafiev, Laurencia de Alexander Krein y Romeo y Julieta de Sergei Prokofiev entre otras.
