ভেতরে কোনো মুক্তিযোদ্ধা না পেয়ে তারা ডাঃ শামসুদ্দিন আহমদ, ডাঃ শ্যামল কান্তি লালা, নার্স মাহমুদুর রহমান, পিয়ন মোঃ মুহিবুর রহমান ও মোখলেছুর রহমান, অ্যাম্বুলেন্স ড্রাইভার কোরবান আলী সহ নয়জনকে হাসপাতাল থেকে বাইরে এনে চত্বরে সারিবদ্ধভাবে দাঁড় করায়। প্রথমে ডাঃ শামসুদ্দিনের বাম উরুতে গুলি করা হয়।
