Yet is not that Infant the common brother of them all, He Who "being rich became poor," Who from that manger, as from the throne of heavenly wisdom, silently teaches us not only the value of brotherly love but also how men from their tenderest years onward must detach themselves from the longing for the goods of this world and share them with the poor, who in their very poverty are so much nearer to Christ?

Forse che quell’Infante non è il fratello comune di tutti? Egli « si fece povero pure essendo ricco », e da quel presepio, come da una cattedra di celeste sapienza, tacito insegna, non solo quanto sia grande il pregio della carità fraterna, ma anche quanto sia necessario che gli uomini fin dalla prima età distacchino il cuore dal desiderio dei beni di questo mondo e li condividano con i poveri più vicini a Cristo.
