35. From this brief historical summary it is easily seen with what care the Apostolic See has watched over the integral preservation of the Ruthenian rite, both as regards the community as a whole and as regards individuals. However, no one will be surprised if it has permitted or temporarily approved some minor changes on account of the special circumstances of the times, provided always that the chief and essential rites remained whole and entire.

Dai fatti che fin qui, venerabili fratelli, secondo le testimonianze storiche abbiamo sommariamente esposti, si ricava facilmente con quanto impegno questa sede apostolica abbia vigilato alla piena conservazione del rito ruteno sia per quanto riguarda l'intera comunità, sia per ciò che si riferisce alle singole persone; nessuno tuttavia si meraviglierà se la medesima Santa Sede, salvi sempre quei riti precipui che appartengono all'essenza della cosa, abbia per le particolari circostanze di cose e di tempi permesse o approvate provvisoriamente alcune minori immutazioni.

Ex iis, quae adhuc, Venerabiles Fratres, ad historiae fidem capitulatim breviterque scribendo persecuti sumus, facile eruitur quantopere Apostolica haec Sedes integrae Rutheni ritus conservationi in vigila verit, sive ad universam communitatem, sive ad singulos quod attinet; nemo tamen mirabitur si eadem — praecipuis ritibus illis, qui ad rei essentiam pertineant, sartis semper tectisque manentibus — ob peculiaria rerum temporumque adiuncta, minores quasdam immutationes permiserit, vel ad tempus probaverit.
