Examination of the packages found that the twist tie arrangement did not provide a secure seal and allowed the material inside to react with the atmosphere, emitting vapours which in turn caused a break down of the tape sealing the 4G cartons. This in turn allowed the vapours to be released into the container.

L’examen des colis a révélé que le lien torsadé ne constituait nullement un scellement sûr et n’empêchait pas la matière à l’intérieur de réagir au contact de l’air, dégageant des vapeurs qui à leur tour détérioraient le ruban scellant les caisses en carton 4G, de sorte que les vapeurs étaient libérées dans le conteneur.
