During the years 1986–1993, the band created their distinctive mix of punk, rock and surf which greatly influenced the whole spectrum of popular music. Their playful and distorted minimalism, fragile vulnerability and blazing force are evident in the works of PJ Harvey, Nirvana, The White Stripes and Radiohead, just to name a few. The lyrics of Black Francis, which draw from the surreal visions of our collective subconscious, were also imprinted in the psyche of a generation of rock lyricists.
