The present invention is an expandable stent (10) having a longitudinal axis (34) comprising a helically coiled single strip metal ribbon (12) which is expandable from a compressed configuration to an expanded configuration, the ribbon (12) having a plurality of interconnected parallel zigzag chains, each chain running the length of the ribbon joined to adjacent to adjacent zigzag chains, each zigzag chain comprising a series of struts (22), the struts (22) at their ends adjoined to adjacent struts (22) by connections (24), the connections (24) on one side of the zigzag chains being the common connections for the adjacent side of an adjacent zigzag chain, the struts (22) of each zigzag chain being approximately parallel to adjacent struts (22) when the stent is in a compressed configuration, and the struts (22) being at angles to adjacent struts (22) when the stent (10) is in an expanded configuration.

Ces connexions relient à la fois un côté des chaînes en zigzag et le côté adjacent d'une chaîne en zigzag adjacente.
