본 발명은 항균성분이 코팅된 실리카 분말의 제조방법 및 이를 포함하는 피부 외용제 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 좀더 상세하게는 촉매존재 하에서 실리콘 알콕사이드를 알코올 용매 내에서 반응시켜 실리카 입자를 형성한 후 여기에 은 및 금속 코팅층을 형성하여 항균성분이 코팅된 실리카 분말을 제조하고, 이를 이용하여 피부 외용제 조성물을 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 항균성분이 코팅된 실리카 분말은 강한 항균력을 나타내어 피부 외용제에 적용시 피부자극과 알레르기 반응을 유발할 수 있는 화학 방부제를 사용하지 않고도 피부 외용제의 장기 보관을 가능케 하며, 고가의 은이온 물질을 적게 사용하고도 우수한 항균력 및 안정성을 나타내고, 또한 밝은 색상을 띠고 있어 화장료용 조성물에 사용시 색상의 표현이 자유로워서 진한 색상뿐만 아니라 밝은 색상의 화장료에도 제약 없이 적용할 수 있다.
