Stefan Jordans Relektüre von Francis Fukuyamas Aufsatz und Buch „The End of History“ (1989/92 – beim Aufsatz zunächst mit Fragezeichen) bietet dazu einen starken Kontrast: Anders als Garton Ash ging Fukuyama nicht von Details und eigenen Erlebnissen aus, sondern von einer philosophisch grundierten, beinahe apokalyptischen Großtheorie über den Siegeszug des Liberalismus – einer Theorie, die zum Untergang der realsozialistischen Herrschaftssysteme perfekt zu passen schien, aber von Anfang an auch als ideologisch kritisiert wurde.

Stefan Jordan’s rereading of Francis Fukuyama’s article and book The End of History (1989/92 – in the case of the article initially phrased as a question) provides a contrast to Garton Ash’s work: Fukuyama does not proceed from details and personal experiences, but from a philosophically founded, almost apocalyptic grand theory on the triumphal march of liberalism – a theory that seemed to perfectly fit the demise of the socialist orders, but was also criticised as ideological from the beginning.
