Thus they display in battle the speed of horse, [together with] the firmness of infantry; and by daily practice and exercise attain to such expertness that they are accustomed, even on a declining and steep place, to check their horses at full speed, and manage and turn them in an instant and run along the pole, and stand on the yoke, and thence betake themselves with the greatest celerity to their chariots again.

De esta manera unen en la batalla la rapidez de los jinetes con la firmeza de los infantes, y es tal la destreza que les da el continuo ejercicio que, aún en los parajes con pendientes y escabrosos, hacen parar a los caballos lanzados al galope, los refrenan en seguida y les hacen dar la vuelta, estando ellos acostumbrados a correr por el timón, a mantenerse en pie sobre el yugo y a volver de allí rápidamente a los carros.
