PFOA-related compounds are used as surfactants and/or fluorinated polymers for a variety of products including ski waxes (Freberg et al., 2010; Nilsson et al., 2010a, 2010b) and treatments for leather, other textiles (such as outdoor textiles and carpets) (Washburn et al., 2005; Begley et al., 2005), and paper packaging of microwave popcorn bags (Sinclair et al., 2007).
