The present invention relates to a cooking appliance, comprising: a top plate divided into a grill area and a 'cooktop' area; a cooktop area heating source disposed in proximity of the cooktop area; a grill area heater disposed adjacent the grill area; a cooking grill disposed adjacent the grill area for supporting food to be cooked; and a cooking grill heater mounted to the grill area for heating the cooking grill through contact with the cooking grill.
