A total or dissociated ipselateral diaphragmatic paralysis was apparent in all the patients who showed typical analgesia in the territory of the 4th cervical segment. Whilst the 4th cervical root according to our observations usually constituted the cephalic portion of the phrenic fibres, root filaments from higher lying segments — very occasionally from the 3rd cervical segment— were shown to innervate the diaphragm.

En todos los heridos que presentaban zonas de analgesia que correspondian típicamente a la lesión de interrupción del cuarto segmento cervical, se comprobó una parálisis diafragmatica homolateral, total o disociada, Mientras que la 4a raiz cervical contiene habitualmente segÚn nuestras investigaciones, la mayor parte de las fibras del frénico, se pudieron comprobar tambien algunas procedentes de segmentos más altos — muy probablemente del tercer segmento cervical — las cuales se distribuyen por las regiones diafragmáticas anteriores.
