राष्ट्रपति ने प्राचीन तमिल ग्रंथ तिरुक्कुरल से मित्रता संबंधी एक श्लोक को उद्धृत किया जिसका अर्थ है, ‘सच्ची मित्रता दुर्लभ है और कठनाई से प्राप्त होती है, एक बार प्राप्त होने पर यह अप्रत्याशित कष्टों से बचाती है।’
