In the Chaco or Western Region, the continuous control measures and monitoring system implemented have led to a significant decrease in the rate of home infestations, amounting in the 2002 baseline to up to 40–60 per cent, compared with a current rate of 1 to 12 per cent, and those infestations are limited to the area immediately around the home and mainly involve the native species Triatoma sordida and Triatoma gusayana.
