বাংলাদেশে সিলেট, দিনাজপুর, কক্সবাজার, ময়মনসিংহ, রাজশাহী ইত্যাদি অঞ্চলে অনেক উপজাতির লোক বাস করে তবে বেশিরভাগ আদিবাসী মানুষ পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামে বাস করেন। এটি এগারোটি উপজাতির বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে সুন্দর আদিবাসীদের আবাস। অপরিসীম সৌন্দর্যের এই পার্বত্য অঞ্চলে চাকমা, মারমা, ত্রিপুরা, তঞ্চঙ্গ্যা, লুশাই, পাংখো, বাওম, ম্রো, খিয়াং, খুমি এবং চকের মতো এগারোটি নৃগোষ্ঠী প্রকৃতির সাথে মিল রেখে বাস করে। এদের সবার মধ্যে চাকমা বাংলাদেশের বৃহত্তম নৃতাত্ত্বিক গোষ্ঠী। এদের বেশিরভাগই বৌদ্ধ ধর্মাবলম্বী এবং বাকী হিন্দু, খ্রিস্টান প্রমুখ। এছাড়াও মূলধারার বেশ কয়েকটি বাঙ্গালী এই অঞ্চলে বাস করেন। তবে তাদের উপস্থিতি ভাষা এবং সংস্কৃতির এই অঞ্চলে বসবাসকারী বাঙালিভাষী লোকদের থেকে আলাদা আলাদা।

In Bangladesh there are many tribal people live in Sylhet, Dinajpur, Cox's Bazar, Mymensingh, Rajshahi etc. But majority of tribal people live in Chittagong Hill tracts. It is the home of eleven tribes, the most beautiful indigenous people of Bangladesh. In this hilly area of immense beauty, eleven ethnic groups such as Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Tanchangya, Lushai, Pankho, Bawm, Mro, Khyang, Khumi and Chak lives in harmony with nature. Among all of them the Chakma are the largest ethnic group in Bangladesh. Majority of them are Buddhists and the rest of them are Hindus, Christians etc. Also a good number of mainstream bangali live in this area. But their appearance, language and culture traditions are markedly different from others Bengali speaking people living in this area.
