The exhibits show that the work of the minimalists was by no means confined to sterile geometric abstractionism. They include Sol Lewitt’s carefully documented tears in sheets of paper, a typewriter poem by Carl Andre and examples of work by Lawrence Weiner, in which the execution of the idea is not necessarily essential and where language assumes the functions of sculpture.

Dat het werk van de ‘minimal artists’ veel meer was dan steriele, geometrische abstracte kunst blijkt wel uit de hier getoonde werken – zoals de nauwkeurig gedocumenteerde scheuren in de vellen papier van Sol LeWitt, het typemachine-gedicht van Carl Andre en het werk van Lawrence Weiner waarbij de uitvoering van het idee niet per se noodzakelijk is en waarbij taal de functie van sculptuur vervangt.
