The United Nations Good Offices Mission in Afghanistan and Pakistan (UNGOMAP) was established on 15 May 1988 in accordance with the letter dated 25 April 1988 from the President of the Security Council addressed to the Secretary-General, with the purpose to assist the Personal Representative of the Secretary-General to lend his good offices to the parties in ensuring the implementation of the Agreements on the Settlement of the Situation Relating to Afghanistan (the Geneva Accords) and in this context to investigate and report possible violations of any of the provisions of the Agreements.

La Misión de Buenos Oficios de las Naciones Unidas en el Afganistán y el Pakistán (UNGOMAP) Se estableció el 15 de mayo de 1988 de conformidad con la carta de fecha 25 de abril de 1988 dirigida al Secretrio General por el Presidente del consejo de Seguridad, para prestar asistencia al Representante Personal del Secretario General mientras prestaba sus buenos oficios a las partes para garantizar la aplicación de los Convenios sobre el arreglo de la situación relativa al Afganistán (Acuerdos de Ginebra) y, en este sentido, para investigar y elaborar informes sobre posibles violaciones de alguna de las disposiciones de los Convenios.
