In his hand-written report that he wrote shortly after the liberation of Boxtel he describes how he left Bussum on 1 September of 1944. He left the village at half past six in the evening and traveled by bicycle to the village Hedel at the river Maas, in the province Gelderland, just north of the city 's-Hertogenbosch.
