Ist der DFB-Pokalsieger für die UEFA Champions League qualifiziert, darf die im Pokalfinale unterlegene Mannschaft - unabhängig von der Ligazugehörigkeit - am UEFA-Pokal teilnehmen. Für die bestplazierte Mannschaft hinter den UEFA-Pokal-Qualifikanten besteht schließlich noch die Möglichkeit, sich über den UEFA Intertoto Cup zu qualifizieren.

The regulations also states that the original trophy is handed to any club that wins the UEFA Cup three times in a row, or five times overall, though this has not happened yet.
