The University of Santiago de Chile, near the University of Atacama and the University of Magallanes are the only heirs of the traditional State Technical University, because at the time of the dissolution and the creation of the new universities in 1981, the headquarters (Santiago), Copiapó and Punta Arenas, were not integrated with other university offices.

La Universidad de Santiago de Chile, junto a la Universidad de Atacama y la Universidad de Magallanes son las únicas continuadoras de la tradición de la Universidad Técnica del Estado, por cuanto al momento de disolverse esta última y crearse las nuevas universidades en 1981, la casa central (Santiago) y las sede Copiapó y Punta Arenas, respectivamente, no fueron fusionadas o integradas con sedes de otras universidades.
