The project proposes the improvement of the quantification and modeling of forest sinks, through the development of accurate and low-cost methodologies and models to estimate the biomass and CO2 retained in the aerial systems of the forest stands; faithfully correlate the carbon dioxide captured in the aerial systems with that stored in the root systems of the tree surfaces; quantify the amount of dead plant matter available on the forest floor surface, as well as contribute to the knowledge of organic carbon stored in the first 50 centimeters of the forest floor.

El proyecto plantea la mejora de la cuantificación y modelización de los sumideros forestales, mediante el desarrollo de metodologías y modelos precisos y de bajo coste, para estimar la biomasa y el CO2 retenido en los sistemas aéreos de las masas forestales; correlacionar fielmente el dióxido de carbono captado en los sistemas aéreos con el almacenado en los sistemas radiculares de las superficies arbóreas; cuantificar la cantidad de materia vegetal muerta disponible en la superficie del suelo forestal, así como contribuir al conocimiento del carbono orgánico almacenado en los primeros 50 centímetros del suelo forestal.
