The European Community reported that through the Hotspot Ecosystems Research on the Margins of European Seas (HERMES) project, it was seeking to better understand the boundaries, structure and dynamics of marine ecosystems; the response of those ecosystems to human activities, with special emphasis on fishing; and forecasting the effects of fishing in the light of the biological interactions of small groups of fish stocks.
