El pasado 13 de abril de 2016 fue aprobado, por la Cámara de Senadores de la Asamblea General de Uruguay, el proyecto de reforma de la Ley de Derechos de Autor No 9.739 de 1937 con modificación en el año 2003, la cual fue en inicio promovida por la Federación de Estudiantes Universitarios del Uruguay (FEUU).
