"World Oceans Day" takes place annually on the 8th of June. The concept was originally proposed in 1992 by Canada's International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) at the Earth Summit – UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. World Oceans Day was officially recognised by the United Nations in 2008.

วันมหาสมุทรโลก วันมหาสมุทรโลก () ตรงกับวันที่ 8 มิถุนายน ของทุกปี เพื่อเฉลิมฉลองและเพื่อกระตุ้นจิตสํานึกให้คนทั้งโลกหันมาใส่ใจ ร่วมกันอนุรักษ์ท้องทะเล กําหนดขึ้นมาอย่างเป็นทางการโดยสหประชาชาติ เริ่มขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2552 แนวความคิดนี้เกิดขึ้นมาตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2535 จากแนวความคิดของประเทศแคนาดา ในการประชุมความร่วมมือของกลุ่มประชาคมโลก (The Earth Summit) ที่เมืองริโอเดอจาเนโร ประเทศบราซิล
