In partnership with the Programme for the Assessment and Control of Pollution in the Mediterranean region (MEDPOL), a thorough examination of the state of sanitation in the Mediterranean, including sewage network and treatment plants, was carried out in 2004 and an inventory of the sewage treatment plants in Mediterranean coastal cities with populations over 10,000 inhabitants was published.
