وحسب التقرير المؤقت عن "خصائص السكن والوسط الذي يعيش فيه السكان"، الذي وضعه المعهد الوطني للإحصاء في عام 2007، فإن أكثر من نصف سكان النيجر (57.14 في المائة) يعيشون في مساكن تقليدية مبنية بمواد محلية (الطوب والطين والخشب والتبن)؛ بينما يعيش 25.80 في المائة منهم في أكواخ (أكواخ من نفس النوع)؛ و8.80 في المائة في منازل من حجر.

According to a 2007 interim report on the characteristics of housing and the living environment of the population by the National Institute of Statistics, more than half the population (57.14 per cent) live in traditional housing built with local materials (adobe, clay, wood and straw); 25.8 per cent in dwelling huts (using the same materials); and 8.8 per cent in permanent structures.
