A sea operation was set off from Buenaventura to Panama, in which Reyes had to recover an old pontoon from out of corrosion to make up for the lack of ships in his fleet, and be able to move his troops; feat known as the “Pontoon’s Adventure”.

Se organizó, entonces, una expedición marítima desde Buenaventura hasta Panamá, y ante la falta de barcos, Reyes rescató del óxido un pontón abandonado para poder transportar la tropa, por lo que se conoce como "la aventura del pontón".
